Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has never shied away from calling a spade, spade. She recently made the headlines for her sizzling dance number Dil Thaam Ke in Rajkummar Rao & Manushi Chillar starrer Maalik. Having faced severe criticisms for doing the song, she recently opened up about the same and being stereotyped in serious roles. Over the years, she has been a part of serious projects where she has essayed the role of intense and dramatic characters.
Opening up about it all during an interview with Bollywood Bubble, the 38-year-old actress wondered why one should be boxed into a certain stereotype. Quoted by News18, she said, “I think why should people box me that you can only do intense film, you are only good or doing this. I am like, who made this rule? Why should I adhere to your idea of what I am good for? I can do this also and that too, and choose when I want to do what.”

Addressing the criticism surrounding item numbers in Indian films, especially Bollywood, she said, “Kuch gaane hote bhi hain jo bahut male gaze waale gaane hote hain. Where you know there is objectification of women, and it’s being done for a purpose. And as a woman, you get that feeling ‘galat jagah aa gaye’. But as far as you are talking about the song which is celebrating the female form, her sensuality and glamour, there’s nothing wrong with it.”
On the work front, after marking her appearance in Rajkummar Rao & Manushi Chillar starrer Maalik’s song Dil Thaam Ke, Huma Qureshi will next be seen in Jolly LLB 3. The third installment of the courtroom drama series also stars Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Amrita Rao, Saurabh Shukla, and Annu Kapoor. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the movie will release on the big screens on September 19, 2025.
