Veteran actor and television host Simi Garewal, known for her elegance and grace, took to social media on Thursday morning to mourn the passing of industrialist Ratan Tata. Unlike the outpouring of tributes from Bollywood, Simi’s message carried a deeply personal note, as she shared a close relationship with Tata, having once been romantically involved with him decades ago.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Simi shared a collage of photographs of herself and Ratan Tata from his appearance on her iconic talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. Alongside the images, she wrote a simple yet poignant message: “They say you have gone. It’s too hard to bear your loss..too hard.. Farewell my friend.. #RatanTata.” Her words echoed the deep connection and affection they shared, something that had endured even after their romantic relationship ended.

Simi Garewal and Ratan Tata were reportedly in a brief relationship many years ago, and though they eventually parted ways, the two remained close friends. In a 2011 interview with Times of India, Simi had reflected on their relationship, describing Tata as a man of great character. “Ratan and I go back a long way. He’s perfection, he’s got a sense of humour, is modest, and the perfect gentleman,” she had said, adding, “Money was never his driving force. He’s not as relaxed in India as he is abroad.”

Ratan Tata, who passed away at the age of 86, was a titan of Indian industry, having helmed the Tata Group for more than two decades. His leadership and vision transformed the conglomerate into a global powerhouse, yet, as Simi and many others attested, his humility and integrity were as remarkable as his business acumen.

Tata breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai at 11:30 pm on Wednesday. He had been in intensive care since Monday. The news of his death has sent waves of grief across the nation, with people from all walks of life remembering him not just for his contribution to industry, but for his kindness, humility, and philanthropy.
