Salman Khan’s Sikandar has been basking in widespread affection from fans, but it’s now facing calls for a boycott from a Muslim activist. The pushback stems from director AR Murugadoss’s alleged history of Islamophobia.
Mumbai-based lawyer and activist Shaikh Faiyaz Alam has called on people to skip the film, encouraging them instead to support Gaza relief efforts and fund Muslim education, legal aid, and political empowerment. Per a News18 report, Alam highlighted Murugadoss’s earlier work, Thuppakki, which he claims promoted Islamophobic themes, urging fans to shun Sikandar this Eid.
For those who don’t know, the premise of Thuppakki reads, “An army officer sets out to save the people of his country when he learns that an entire network of terrorists are operating in the city and are planning to carry out multiple terror attacks.” Later, in 2014, Thuppakki was remade in Hindi as Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty by Murugadoss, and it starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role.
Shaikh Faiyaz Alam further noted that The Waqf Amendment Bill is slated to be introduced, raising concerns about whether leaders like Chirag Paswan, Nitish Kumar, and Chandrababu Naidu will support the Muslim community or turn their backs.
He also called for a boycott of Israeli products in solidarity with Palestine, stating, “This isn’t a moment for festivities – it’s a time for sacrifice.” Meanwhile, Salman Khan’s Sikandar has amassed Rs. 78.81 crore domestically, and Rs. 95 crore globally. The film features a stellar cast, including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Sathyaraj, and more in prominent roles. Keep an eye out for further updates!
