There has been a major development in the case of the disgraced Harvey Weinstein, the biggest and the most significant name in Hollywood to fall during the 2017 Me Too Movement.

The guilty decision against Weinstein, who was convicted of rape back in 2020 in New York, has been overturned. This development came after the New York Court of Appeals said that Weinstein didn’t receive a fair trial.

The court added that Weinstein was previously unfairly tried, ordering a new trial against the former Hollywood mogul. Despite this, Weinstein is still in prison as he was convicted of rape in a separate case in Los Angeles.

Talking about this latest development, Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, said, “There are people who are very unpopular in our society, but we still have to apply the law fairly to them. In this courthouse behind us, at that trial, the law was not applied fairly to Harvey Weinstein.”

The reason behind overturning Weinstein’s conviction is “erroneously admitting testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes.”

The reaction to this development has been pouring in, with many outraged over the decision to overturn Weinstein’s conviction.

One user on X wrote, “Sorry sorry… Did I just read that right? Harvey Weinstein has his rape conviction overturned because his lawyers have said there was too much bad character evidence and too many women came forward with their own experiences? F**king spare me. Honest to god. The state of this legal system,” while another said, “Everyone knew about Harvey Weinstein. Everyone knew about R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, and Jeffrey Epstein. Everyone knew about the Catholic priests. Everyone knew about Donald Trump. I’m so tired of people protecting rich perverts, keeping their dark secrets for decades. So damn tired.”

Oscar winning actor Mira Sorvino, who was one of the women to speak against Weinstein, wrote, “Horrified! Harvey Weinstein’s conviction overturned, due partly to Molyneux witnesses testifying to prior bad acts, like lioness Annabella Sciorra. Since when don’t courts allow evidence of a pattern of prior bad acts to be admitted? He’s a prolific serial predator who raped/harmed 200+ women! Disgusted with the justice system.”

Another user on X was extremely angry, writing, “F**k Harvey Weinstein and f**k this bulls**t justice system,” while another said, “Absolute bulls**t that Harvey Weinstein just got his NY conviction overturned, but don’t panic – he stays locked up/remains in prison ‘cause he was convicted in Los Angeles of ANOTHER rape and sentenced to sixteen years. Still though, here we are again: two steps forward, five steps back. F**king madness.”

Harvey Weinstein has produced numerous movies that have either been nominated for the Oscars, even winning the popular award on multiple occasions.

He’s known for movies like Paddington, Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, The Iron Lady, Inglourious Basterds, The Aviator, Fahrenheit 9/11, Cold Mountain, Master and Commander, Kill Bill, Chicago, Gangs of New York, and many, many others.
