James Gunn Reveals First Look At David Corenswet’s Superman But Fans Are Pissed

The new Superman movie is on the way.

James Gunn, who is the co-Chariman and co-CEO of DC Studios along with Peter Safran, posted the first look of the forthcoming Superman movie on his official Threads account.

Gunn also posted the same on his Instagram account, with actor David Corenswet’s first look at as Superman in the 2025 movie. He captioned the post “Get ready. #Superman 7.11.25” hinting that the movie will be released on 7 November next year.

In the pic, Superman’s costume is weathered and dirty, which signals that the superhero will be up to a lot of fighting in the movie.

On his Threads account, Gunn also wrote that the picture posted “was taken on set by Jessica Miglio and was entirely in-camera.”

Miglio is a still photographer who has worked on numerous high-profile movies and TV shows, like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Suicide Squad, and Ozark, to name a few.

Though not everyone had a positive response to the new Superman look. On Gunn’s Instagram post, users left negative comments.

While one said, “Bro, I can tell that a cosplayer could be better than this picture,” another said, “Without any doubt, the worst Superman has ever looked. Comical how bad this is. Legit had to check it wasn’t April Fool’s Day. Just WOW. How did this get approved?”

In the picture, Superman can be seen putting on his red boots while, in the background, an attack is underway. Many noticed this. One person wrote, “Why is he slowly putting on his boots when Metropolis is under attack?” while another said, “Metropolis is literally under attack and he is doing that?”

On Twitter, one user unironically asked, “Is this supposed to look like bad AI?” while another tweeted, “It looks like the suit doesn’t even fit him. It looks baggy.”

Superman is written and directed by James Gunn, and stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Superman. This is Corenswet’s first major Hollywood lead role. He has previously starred in Netflix series The Politician and Hollywood, and in movies like Look Both Ways and Pearl.

The movie also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Nicholas Hoult, Terence Rosemore, Wendell Pierce, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell.
